Mbombela – Fewer accidents were recorded on Mpumalanga’s roads this Easter weekend than compared to last year.
Sixteen people were killed in 57 accidents, compared to 22 deaths in 88 crashes over the 2015 Easter holiday, Mpumalanga department of safety, security and liaison spokesperson Joseph Mabuza said on Tuesday.
According to Mabuza, law enforcement officers played a large role in reducing the number of accidents. The department’s aim was to have zero accidents on the province’s roads.
“It is more worrying that more people are found on the roads driving under the influence of alcohol. This shows that people don’t care about their lives,” he said.
